Fishing in Charlotte Harbor is exceptional with many great tournaments, including a regular stop for a televised Redfish Tournament. The Gulf of Mexico is only a short distance with the world’s greatest Tarpon fishing.
The Peace River empties into the harbor and many boaters prefer to go “Up river” to fish in the secluded tributaries. The scenery is spectacular and if you are a bird watcher, you will enjoy the large variety of waterfowl. Sometimes small islands are so filled with nesting storks they appear snow capped.
Sailboat racing and cruising is another favorite pastime of area locals. Sailing magazines praise the waters of Charlotte Harbor as some of the best cruising grounds in the US. Weekend sailboat races are a pleasure to watch with their colorful sails.
Golfers will find Charlotte County a paradise. There are courses throughout the county and no area is more than a short drive from a great tee. Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda have many courses and Rotonda is a community built around several. In and around Rotonda, one can play golf on a different course each day of the week.
