A company called Kite Bricks wants to take the Lego idea into home construction. Everyone who has ever played with the toy, Legos, knows how easy they snap together to build a playhouse. Now Kite Bricks wants to make home construction just as easy. The unit is made of high strength concrete. When snapped together and sealed with an adhesive, it makes a strong and efficient building. The company claims this allows large savings in heating and cooling. They also claim that the technique is faster to assemble and is stronger than traditional building methods.

The concrete blocks are designed to fasten together easily and provide open spaces for plumbing, wiring and insulation. It can even accommodate steel reinforcement. Floors, walls and even the ceiling are made of the blocks just like in a Lego set.

Bricks are made to order and can come in various sizes and shapes. The company believes this should make for a very energy efficient building. The construction method also reduces the requirement for sand, water and steel. The strength of the blocks will make structures able to more easily withstand earthquakes and hurricanes. They also home for a 50% reduction in building cost. All building infrastructure will be accessible through removable panels in the blocks. Therefore a repairperson will not have to demolish a floor or wall to repair plumbing, electric or other items.
