On Tuesday, 3/13/2007, the Charlotte County Commission voted to work with the USFWS to streamline permitting of construction on lots found to be free of scrub jays in suspect areas.
Hopefully, this will expedite matters once the proper study for an owner’s lot has been completed. This decision will not automatically release scrub jay suspect lots, it will only make the process quicker. The owner of a suspect lot will still be required to conduct an environmental study.
This is good news for owners of lots and homes in Deep Creek, FL where the presence of scrub jays has slowed permitting. Large portions of Englewood have also been affected. Lots in Englewood East, Florida have lost value even more than average due to the presence of scrub jays. A large area west of the Myakka River in Gulf Cove, FL has been impacted by the presence of the birds as well as sections along SR 776.
Luckily for owners of homes in Rotonda, Florida, the birds seem to have avoided the area, however biologists warn that the birds do move around. One should always check the official list prior to the purchase of a building lot. Call a Suncoasteam broker if you need assistance.
There will be more on this subject in the future. Please check this site regularly for more information.
