The Charlotte Stone Crabs, the Tampa Bay Rays Class A Advanced Affiliate in Port Charlotte, FL, won the 2015 Florida State League Championship last night with a 3-2 victory over the Daytona Tortugas. It took 13 innings against a tough team but the “Crabs” came through. It was a complete team effort. Everyone contributed and it shows what a great team they are! Isaac Gil got the win for the Crabs after shutting down Daytona in the 13th. Five Stone Crabs pitchers contributed with starter Brent Honeywell going 6 innings, relieved by Jordan Harrison. Mike Franco threw an inning in relief and Steve Ascher came on to throw 4 spectacular innings. Ken Wong showed his patience at the plate when he walked with bases loaded in the 13th to drive in the winning run. Perhaps the most thrilling moment came when left fielder Granden Goetzman made a diving catch to prevent a sure run and save the game.
