The airport at Punta Gorda, FL will triple the size of its terminal in an expansion that will take 18 months. There will be more ticket counters and an enlarged waiting area with additional security. The current terminal is 16,000 s/f. The new terminal will be 50,000 s/f.
The airport’s only current airline, Allegiant, now serves 23 cites with flights 2 or 3 times a week. The $8,000,000 expansion should allow the airline to add routes and increase frequency. It is also hoped that other airlines see the benefit of flying to Punta Gorda, FL.
The federal Aviation Administration will provide 70% of the funding with the remainder paid by the Florida Department of Transportation and the airport’s own funding.
