Passenger travel through the airport in Punta Gorda, FL has increased dramatically According to the Charlotte County Airport Authority. A jump of 20,000 travelers in only one month, February to March, 2014 has increased calls to renovate the terminal there.
Punta Gorda airport is now the fourth fastest growing airport in the United States. A planned project would expand the airport terminal from its current 16,000 square feet to approximately 60,000 square feet. The expansion would allow more ticket counters, a larger and more comfortable waiting room and possibly an additional gate with enhanced security.
The proposal cost is in the range of $11,000,000. More than three quarters of that amount would be paid from a federal grant, the remainder to be paid by the state and Charlotte County Airport Authority.
