Mote Marine Aquarium

On February 1, 2014, Mote Marine opened their new, limited time exhibit, Survivors: Beautiful and Extreme Adaptations. The exhibit features some of the strangest, most evolved, and impressive species that visitors will ever see.

Many of the species are not native to Florida, which makes the exhibit extra unique. On display, you will need to look closely to find some of the animals which have evolved such extreme adaptations that they appear to simply blend in with the set-up of their exhibit. There are also creatures that have developed lethal toxicity that has become imperative to their species survival.

Survivors features a diverse collection of frog species, including the Cuban Tree Frog, Green Tree Frog, Vietnamese Mossy Frog, and more. There is also an abundance of seas species such as jellyfish, cuttlefish, and clown fish to name a few.

The exhibit is located on the north side of the Ken Thompson Parkway, in the same area where Hugh and Buffet (the manatees), sea turtles, and dolphin are located.

Mote Marine Aquarium is open 365 days per year and is a great way to spend a day.

As an annual member to Mote Marine, I must advocate their importance to not just our community, but to the local marine life that makes the waters of Sarasota so special. A trip to Mote will not only impress, but will also educate you on the diverse aquatic life living in our very waters.
