Holiday Season in Sarasota

Holiday Season in Sarasota

While most of the country deals with freezing temperatures, icy roads, shoveling snow, and clearing off cars in the morning, residents in southwest Florida don’t have those worries. Our biggest issues with the wintry weather revolves around decisions like wearing shorts vs long pants, shoes vs flip flops, and whether or not it will be too chilly to sit outside at dinner. It’s the simple things like this that make Florida so great in the winter time. But there is something to be said about the holiday season in Sarasota.

Many people are accustomed to seeing Christmas lights, but how many people have seen a decorated palm tree or a boat parade full of water vessels covered in lights? How many people can say that they stood outside for two hours to watch a Christmas parade in the middle of December wearing nothing more than shorts and a sweatshirt? How many people have taken part in a block party all night for New Years Eve only to see a brightly lit pineapple drop at midnight? Ok, so you get the point.

Sure, the snow looks pretty during the holiday season and maybe there is something special about huddling around a fire at Christmas time. But for me, and many others in Sarasota, we’ll take the white sand beaches over the white snow up north. We like the blue waters more than the grey skies. And we prefer spending more time outdoors doing the things we like rather than spending our outdoor time scraping off our car before work.

If you are one of those people who have had the dream to get away from the cold, throw out the snow boats, and stick the snow shovel in the trash, then you may want to consider relocating in Sarasota.

Just so you can get an idea about what I’m talking about, I have included some pictures of holiday lights in Siesta Key and Lido Key, as well as the Sarasota Christmas parade.
